Richard Guerra

Richard James Guerra, 83, of Nashua passed away peacefully November 22 at the Courville at Nashua. Born April 12, 1940 in Stamford, CT the second son of Salvatore and Margaret Guerra. After Rick graduated from St Basil’s Preparatory School in Stamford he went on to UNH where he met his wife Clara (Tiernan) and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. Married June 30th of 1962 they went on to have three children James, Joseph, and Ann. Later welcoming 7 grandchildren. His entire family and friends enveloped him in love his entire life but especially the last few months. He put his degree to work at Sanders/ Lockheed Martin/ BAE for 35 years. While most of his work was classified at the time, it was later revealed he worked on unique things like raising lobsters but also sonar buoys and was a part of the Skunk Works team, keeping our air and seas safe. He holds 3 patents for his work there. He was a proud Member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society where he volunteered for many years. The American Chemical Society and The American Radio Relay League. He found HAM radio to be great fun and enjoyed communicating with people around the globe especially in Morse code. Rick was also an avid photographer chronicling everything from family trips to Canobie Lake Park to their annual vacation in the Caribbean. Rick had a natural curiosity about him all his life; he loved methodically taking things apart and putting them back together. It would turn him into a true renaissance man. He was the one to call when something broke, and after some grumbling, showed up to fix it, secretly putting a smile on his face and satisfaction in his heart. In his retirement years he and Clara finally had the chance to spend the winter months in the warm Florida sunshine. A place they loved not only for the beach and the birds but also watching the shuttle and rocket launches. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, November 29th from 5pm -7pm in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry Street in Hudson, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, November 30th at 10am in St. Christopher Church, 62 Manchester Street in Nashua, NH. All are asked to please meet at church. Burial will be held in St. Patrick Cemetery in Hudson, NH.
