John W. White

John W. White, 91, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026. Born on April 13, 1935, in New York City to Irish immigrant parents, John faced a tumultuous childhood that helped shape the resilient spirit, determination, and perseverance that would define his life. Through hard work and dedication, he built a life marked by service, family, and professional accomplishment. John proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Following his military service, John was a distinguished graduate of Syracuse University, where he excelled academically and was a proud member of the university’s boxing team, demonstrating the discipline and tenacity that characterized him throughout his life. Following his education, John embarked on a successful career in the Property and Casualty insurance industry. He began his career with Aetna Insurance and went on to hold positions of increasing responsibility before retiring from Peerless Insurance after many years of dedicated service and professional excellence. Outside of his career, John embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm. He loved traveling, attending a Broadway show, challenging himself with crossword puzzles, and was a devoted follower of Syracuse sports. A gifted writer, he pursued his passion for the written word throughout his life and continued his studies in writing following his retirement. Above all, John was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his family. His wisdom, sense of humor, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan. They shared 43 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2001. He is survived by his children: Steven (Katy) White of Cicero, New York; Lisa (Carl) Hebert of Pepperell, Massachusetts; Dianne Wright of Keene, New Hampshire; and Michael (Karen) White of Templeton, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Hannah White, Ryan White, Alison Wright, and John R. Wright, and his beloved great-grandson, John Henry Wright. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who provided John with compassionate care, dignity, and comfort during his final days. In accordance with John’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours or funeral service. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John’s memory to Home Health & Hospice Care's Community Hospice House (General Donation). John’s legacy of service, integrity, and love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
