Diane Marie McAveeney

Diane Marie McAveeney, wife of Paul D. McAveeney, Jr. passed away peacefully at home with her beloved husband by her side on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Diane was predeceased by her parents, Lt. Col. Richard J. and Mary A. (Hurley) Smart, her brother, William J. Smart and her sister, Carrie Y. Jolicoeur, nephews Greggory Smart and Dana Smart. Diane was a wonderful Mum to her four children; Bonnie (Payne) Berry & husband John, Donna (Payne) Kilmartin and her husband Bob, Dennis Payne, Richard Payne and stepson Paul G. McAveeney. In addition to her children, Diane was a loving Nana to 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Diane is also survived by her brothers, Scott P. Smart, James R. Smart and wife Debbie, Jeffrey A. Smart and wife Michelle along with numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Diane was the heartbeat of her family and nothing made her happier or made her more proud than being a Mum and Nana. Summer gatherings were some of Diane’s favorite moments by bringing her entire family together around her pool. Diane spent her earlier years in Cambridgeshire England until she ultimately moved back to the United States to bring her children closer to her parents, brothers and sister. Diane made a beautiful and welcoming home in Pelham, NH and lived there for the last 18 years. Diane was a warrior and through her own self-discipline and drive, did everything to ensure that her family was healthy, happy and well taken care of. Prior to her retirement, Diane grew her career to a successful engineer bringing her talents around the world. Diane and Paul loved to travel and thankfully she was able to fulfill many of her dreams by visiting Hawaii, many places across the United States and many cruises. Diane will always be remembered for her boundless love for her friends and family, her amazing smile and laugh, her zest for life and her love for the color “cobalt blue”. She will be missed beyond words by anyone who had the privilege to know and love her. To remember Diane is to celebrate her life and her love for her family. If you’d like to honor Diane’s memory in person, calling hours will be held at DUMONT-SULLIVAN FUNERAL HOME, 50 Ferry Street, Hudson NH on Monday, September 18th from 4pm to 7pm. A Service of Remembrance will be held Tuesday, September 19th at 10am at the funeral home. Friends and family are all welcome to attend.
