Deborah Dogul

Deborah Ann Dogul (Ciesla) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a short battle with metastatic melanoma on October 5th 2025. The daughter of Thaddius (Ted) Ciesla and Janice Ciesla (Smith), Deb was born on April 13th 1953 and she grew up in Coventry, Rhode Island and graduated from Coventry High School in 1971. She attended college at Rhode Island College and earned her Bachelors of Art in business in 1984. In her typical Deb fashion, she only completed her program and earned her degree after taking a 6 year hiatus to live in St. Thomas, where she also invented the Bushwhacker cocktail and even modeled for a post card. After graduating college she met the love of her life, Jim Dogul in Rhode Island. The two were married in Newport, RI in 1988 and had their only daughter, Amanda Marsden (Dogul) in 1990. Deb, Jim, and Amanda lived in Hudson, New Hampshire together and spent almost every moment together. Deb even quit her successful buyer job to raise her daughter at an in home daycare with a few other children, returning to retail after Amanda started school to work at Macys in the gift wrapping department. Many adventures were had in so many places such as Paris France, Sedona Arizona, Quebec Canada, Key West Florida, Dublin Ireland, beaches all over New England, and the mountains in New Hampshire and Vermont. She was an avid skier and can be remembered for her epic wipeouts often yelling that she was in an uncontrollable spin. She will be remembered for her wicked sense of humor and love of life. She loved her family and friends fiercely (as well as her two Siberian cats, Sydney and Chewey) and will never be forgotten. Deb loved to cook and some of the best memories of her took place in the kitchen. She would cook traditional Polish dishes such as galumpkis, pierogies, borscht and host Easter dinner with all of her family. She taught her daughter from a young age to appreciate the value of a home cooked meal and together they would spend hours making the next exciting recipe over a glass (or two) of wine, talking about everything and nothing. Baking was a favorite activity and she would make the most amazing cakes, muffins, pies, cookies and meringues. Deb had so many hardships in life but she took them all head on with an amazing attitude. She was a pivotal member of the Hudson community, from chaperoning field trips, to working in the special education department at Alvirne High School, to even providing a safe and fun place for Amanda’s friends to go where they could be themselves and not feel judged. Many of Amanda’s friends saw Deb as a surrogate mother and will miss her so dearly. Talking to Deb felt like you had known her your whole life even if it was your first conversation with her and she was just a comforting presence to be around. After Amanda moved out to start her own family she focused all of her time on her grandchildren Evelyn and Aidan and she had the opportunity to watch them both for the first two years of their lives. Although difficult to wrangle at times, she enjoyed every moment with her grandkids and loved to watch them grow. Deb Is survived by her husband of 37 years, Jim Dogul and her Daughter Amanda Marsden (Dogul) with her son-in-law Kyle Marsen and grand children Evelyn June and Aidan Henry; her sister Meredith Pond (Ciesla) and niece and nephew Erin and Sean Pond; sister Vanessa Ciesla and nephew Derrick Ciesla along with great nephews Jackson and Carter Ciesla; brother Eric Ciesla and niece Casey Ciesla. She was predeceased by her parents Ted and Janice Ciesla. We are devastated at the loss of Deb and we will miss her kindness, laugh, love, and silly antics every day. We hope that her kindness and generosity will live on through her family and friends for years to come. We will hold a celebration of life next summer in place of a funeral service.
