NASHUA, NH - Peter James Brennan, 77, of Nashua, NH, a Lowell resident for most of his life, died Sunday evening, September 11, 2016, at the Greenbriar Kindred Rehabilitation and Transitional Care Center. He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline A.(Murray) Brennan. Born in Lowell, January 3, 1939, the son of the late John Emmett Brennan II and Magdalen Ann Cooney, he attended the Morey School and Lowell High School. Mr. Brennan graduated from Merrimack College in North Andover with a bachelor degree in Business and from Suffolk Law School in Boston with a Juris Doctor degree. Mr. Brennan was also a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Brennan worked for Deloitte Touche, later the Internal Revenue Service and also in his own practice. Mr. and Mrs. Brennan raised four children in the Belvidere section of Lowell. As a lawyer and C.P.A., Mr. Brennan ran his own law and accounting practice on Staniford Street in Boston and later in North Andover. Mr. Brennan also worked as a real estate developer over the years and as a real estate broker for DeWolfe Company and then Coldwell Banker in Chelmsford. Mr. Brennan also assisted with the floral business, known as “Madeleine de Fleurette,” which was run by Mrs. Brennan for close to 20 years. Mr. Brennan also served as an advisor and the treasurer on the Congressional campaign of Paul E. Cronin, who defeated former Senator and current Secretary of State John Kerry in 1960s 5th Congressional District race. Mr. Cronin was elected to the 93rd House of Representatives from 1967-1969. Mr. Brennan participated on many fundraising development boards of directors for various organizations over the years including Catholic Charities for the Archdiocese of Boston, Merrimack College, St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers and Notre Dame Academy of Tyngsboro among others. Mr. Brennan was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Parish of Lowell where he was a member of the choir and later the Immaculate Conception Parish of Nashua, NH. Mr. Brennan often filled the family home with music as an advanced piano player. An avid golfer, Mr. Brennan held a membership at Vesper Country Club through 1970s and 1980s. Mr. Brennan is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Connerty and her husband, Patrick of Hudson, NH; three sons, Peter J. Brennan, Jr., and his wife, Catarina Ferreira of Portugal; Timothy M. Brennan and his wife, Norma, of Old Orchard Beach, ME; and Matthew J. Brennan and his wife Rosane Rosa Brennan of Lowell; seven grandchildren, Jaime Cullen and her husband, Robert, of Connecticut, Shaun Sutherland and his wife Kelly of Lowell, MA, Nicklaus Connerty, Zachary Connerty, Liam Connerty, Mayah Brennan and Antoine Brennan; one great grandchild Avery Cullen; three brothers, John E. Brennan III, of Gloucester, MA, The Honorable Dennis J. Brennan of Okatie, SC, and Daniel M. Brennan, D.M.D. and his wife, Donna, of Lowell, MA, his sister in law, Ann (McCormack) Brennan of Beverly, MA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, September 19th at 10am in Immaculate Conception Parish, 316 East Dunstable Road in Nashua, NH. All may meet at church. Burial immediately following mass will be in St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road in Tewksbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Brennan Family Executive Club Scholarship at Merrimack College. Please make checks payable to Merrimack College, 315 Turnpike St., North Andover, MA 01845. The scholarship fund created by Mr. Brennan provides tuition assistance to students majoring in Business at Merrimack College.
