Kurt Schaefer

Kurt Schaefer, 54, of Litchfield, NH, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Kurt was born September 17, 1968 in Norwood, MA. He was predeceased by his father, Charles Schaefer and is survived by his stepmother, Betty Schaefer of Buxton, ME. Kurt was the devoted husband of Marie (Gilbert) Schaefer of Litchfield for 16 years. He owned and operated Greenworks Landscaping in Hudson for over 20 years. For the past five years Kurt had been employed with Hudson Quarry. An avid golfer for more than 40 years and fan of baseball and football, nothing was more dear to Kurt than his time serving in various positions with the Litchfield Baseball Association. Over his time as president, vice president, and coach, he was the visionary and developer of the Justin Bissett Memorial Baseball Complex. He contributed countless hours and personal investment into the clearing and excavation of the land, coordinating multiple fundraising events such as Comedy nights and brick sales, and organized the vendors to complete the infrastructure needed to make the complex a success all while rebuilding and expanding the youth baseball program in Litchfield. Over the years he also coached baseball at both the youth and high school level. Kurt was also honored to have served with the Litchfield Board of Selectmen for 3 year and was the representative to the Recreation Committee. He was particularly proud of his contribution to the approval and construction of the new fire station in Litchfield. Besides his devoted wife Marie, Kurt is survived by his loving step mother Betty; two sons, Ivan of Litchfield, NH, Richard and his wife Elizabeth of St. Augustine, FL, two daughters; Cici and her partner Chris of Hudson, NH, Katrina and her husband Troy of Hudson, NH, four grandchildren; Thomas, Owen, Hannah, and Montgomery, two step brothers; Brian Currier and his wife Leslie of Standish, ME, Dan Currier and his fiancé Jill of Riviera Beach, FL, an aunt; Diane Pizura and her husband Frank of Norton, MA, also a cousin; Nick Burlingame and his wife Erin of Plainville, MA as well as many dear friends, especially Steve Webber who he partnered closely with to give back to the community and make things happen. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Hagar. Following cremation, a time of visitation will be held on Sunday, November 20th from 2:00pm - 4:30pm with a Service of Remembrance at 4:30pm in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry St., in Hudson. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations be made in Kurt’s loving memory to Litchfield Baseball Association or Motley Mutts Rescue, 114 Londonderry Turnpike #4 Hooksett, NH 03106.
