Born in Nashua, NH on June 19, 1936, Irene was the daughter of the late Charles and Yvonne Tiernan. Irene graduated from Nashua High School in 1954. In high school, Irene was known for her infectious smile and laughter. She was involved in the Junior Red Cross, camera club, the Senior class play and worked as Exchange Editor of the Tusitala. After high school, Irene worked as a telephone operator for the telephone company. On December 29, 1956, Irene married the love of her life and best friend, Ronald A. Jean, whom she had lived next door to since the age of 10. Their devotion, commitment and love for one another was the foundation for the life they built together. A life filled with love, laughter and children. In 1974, Irene graduated from Rivier College with a BA in Early Childhood Education, and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Education from Fitchburg State College. Irene taught 5th and 6th grade over the course of 20 years at Matthew Thornton School in Londonderry, NH, before retiring in 1995. Irene was a devout catholic and parishioner of St. John the XXIII Parish and sang in the choir. She often attended spiritual retreats and she and her husband, Ronald, often visited the Little Sisters of the Holy Family in Sherbrooke, Que, which is a Roman Catholic community that belongs to the Third Order of Francis of Assisi and founded by Blessed Marie-Leonie Paradis (1840-1912). Irene and Ronald had 5 children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grand-mother and great-grand mother. She has 5 grand-children, Brittany and her husband Brian Gagnon, Jessica Wright, Samantha McCarthy, Joel Jacobs and Katherine Holloran, and 6 great grand-children. One of Irene’s greatest joys was spending time with and spoiling her grand- children and great grand-children. You could often find her sitting on the floor with the kids playing tea-party or trains. Irene’s welcoming smile and warmth touched everyone she met. She had a way of spreading joy and love and bringing peace to those who knew her.
