Maureen Lyons

Maureen Lyons, 70, beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother passed away on July 8th after a brief illness with her family by her side. She was born August 24th, 1954 in Fort Bragg,NC, the eldest of 9 to Mary Jane and Allen Lutz. She attended St Mary’s Catholic School in Wappingers Falls, NY and was a 1972 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, NY. She graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Syracuse NY and went on to earn her Bachelor of Nursing at SUNY New Paltz. She had a long and fulfilling career at St. Francis and Vassar Brothers Hospitals in Poughkeepsie NY. While there, she cared for her patients with a combination of no-nonsense candor and compassion. At Our Lady of Lourdes High School she met her husband of 47 years, William Lyons. They married on Oct 29, 1977 and lived a life of entertaining, traveling, beach family vacations, and attending Bill’s beloved sporting events. They raised their family in Hopewell Junction NY, but when Bill’s career took them to France and other parts of the US; Maureen gladly followed and took advantage of all the opportunities these destinations offered. Their sense of community and devotion to family led them to permanently settle in Nashua, New Hampshire so they would be close to their children and grandchildren. They easily established roots there, playing golf, joining a book club and socializing with many amazing new friends. No matter her location, her Faith never wavered. She became a devoted member of Church of the Immaculate Conception Parish and put her faith into action volunteering at the Corpus Christi Food Pantry. But her true passion was being a doting grandmother. She and Bill attended every dance performance, sporting event, school concert, and any activity her cherished grandchildren were involved in. Maureen’s love and talent for cooking made her home (or tailgate party) the place to be for a delicious meal and festive decor. Her expertise made her the woman to call with any questions about cooking and hosting- this was especially evident on every Thanksgiving when her phone was always ringing. She is survived by her husband and their 3 daughters Monica Lyons, Colleen (Brian) O’Connell and Bridget (John) Ging. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren who brought joy and mayhem to her life: Keira, Eamonn, Garrett, Molly, and Ben. She is survived by her siblings, Shirley Irwin, Cindy McDonald, Allen Lutz, Mary Ellen Bruno, Jeanine McManus, Matt Lutz and Teresa Pfalzgraf, her brother in law Gary Lyons, sister in law Cathie Thomas and her many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her in-laws George and Joan Lyons, her sister Kathy Hendrickson and her niece Stefani Hendrickson. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, July 11th from 4pm - 6pm in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry Street in Hudson, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 10am in Immaculate Conception Church, 216 East Dunstable Road in Nashua, NH. All are asked to please meet at church. Burial will take place in St. Francis Cemetery in Nashua.
