Lola Mae Stone

On August 29th 2024, Lola Mae Butler Stone, 91, residing in Hudson, NH passed peacefully in the early morning. Lola left us the way she lived her life with quiet power, on her own terms, without any fuss. As a young woman, Lola enjoyed the simple pleasures of her community – ice skating, tennis plus spending time with family and friends. While working at the Christian Science Monitor, Lola met her loving husband, Richard with whom she enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage. After marriage, Lola turned her house into a home with handmade household decor she loved to make. Sewn and crafted gifts were Lola’s love language, and she shared those gifts generously. In her later years when Alzheimer’s took away much of her independence, Lola still took great pleasure doing puzzles and simple art projects with the help of her loved ones. Lola loved her four children Deborah, Douglas, Bruce and David fully. By extension of this love for them, their spouses Barry, Barbara, Debby and Samantha were surrounded with a love that felt just as strong. This love continued as her family grew to include her grandchildren; Daniel and his wife Myste, Heather and her partner Jason, Michael and his wife Devan, Sarah and her fiancé Ryan, Rachel and her husband Will, Samantha, Stephen, Jackie and fiancé Casey, Derick and Johnathan along with her great grandchildren; Maya, Trent, Tori, Brody, Cecelia, William and Owen. Lola’s greatest joy was seeing her family thrive and grow. Lola’s family will miss her quiet wit and will always remember her smile. Never, even in the most advanced stages of her disease, did she lose her sense of humor. A funny story about her family almost always brought out a beaming smile. A visitation to celebrate Lola’s life will be held on Thursday, September 5th from 4:00pm - 6:00pm at the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry Street in Hudson, NH. A private ceremony at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn, MA will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made in Lola’s memory to the staff that cared for her for almost a decade - Fairview Senior Living, 203 Lowell Road Hudson, NH 03051. Lola’s family took comfort over the years knowing that she was safe and nourished, despite her struggles with Alzheimer’s disease.
