Kevin DeCost

Kevin DeCost made his last gesture on September 17th, 2022, with his daughters by his side, concluding a life well lived filled with moments and memories that will be cherished forever. Kevin was born to Walter DeCost and the late Sandra DeCost (Wood) on October 9th, 1965 in Winchester, MA. Kevin is predeceased by his mother Sandra, brother Douglas, and best friend, his dog, Bandit. Being a part of a large family of boys shaped Kevin and resulted in a lifetime of hard work and dedication to his friends and family. Kevin had a plethora of jokes, all perfectly at the intersection of brain teaser and sarcasm. We could not forget though, a classic scare would also do the job for him, which the mother of his daughters, Karyn Gagnon, knows far too well. He was a dog lover. Dogs had an instantaneous love, respect, and obedience toward him. Kevin was an impeccable judge of character, and had an eye for spotting the good in people. Kevin started his illustrious career as an electrician after attending Shawsheen Valley Technical High School. Capable of executing his electrical work perfectly, little did his customers know prior to the work, how many “come on”s and possibly a few more colorful words they would hear throughout the process. Kevin was unapologetically himself, never second guessing himself or opinions of others, as well as a fiercely strong and independent individual. These traits drew people toward his rich, deep personality, and once you were privileged to see under his outer shell, there was no better friend than him. Growing up in Kevin’s household was never dull. Kevin was a dedicated “girl dad”, from pool parties, to learning to braid, soccer games, dance recitals, and backyard tractor rides. He lovingly enjoyed the little things with his girls. These moments evolved into trips to his daughter’s college, and family football Sundays. He translated this love of sharing moments in his role as “Pa” to his grandson, Benjamin Wright, and his son-in-law, Nicholas Wright, whom he hopes he taught his handyman skills to as his daughters’, though they tried, continuously referred to screw drivers as either the “plus sign or minus sign type”. We were too privileged to be able to give him a call and say “Dad, can you come mount this TV on the wall” or “Dad, can you come change this light fixture”. Kevin is survived by his loving daughters Kristin DeCost and Kayla Wright, and their mother, Karyn Gagnon, thoughtful son-in-law Nicholas Wright, and grandson, Benjamin Wright. He is also survived by his father, Walter DeCost, brothers Mark DeCost, Paul DeCost, Keith DeCost, Gene DeCost, sister-in-law, Lisa DeCost, several wonderful nieces and nephews left with decades of wonderful memories. Kevin faced his death and mortality, as he did with life, with strong will and no complaints, never admitting pain or giving an easy fight. A Celebration of Kevin’s Life will be held on Friday, September 23rd from 12:00PM - 1:45pm, with a Prayer Service at 1:45pm in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home on 50 Ferry Street in Hudson, NH. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in honor of Kevin’s brother, Douglas at www.afsp.org
