John Kotheimer

John Charles Kotheimer, 86, of Hudson, NH, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Premier Health Care in Nashua, NH. He was born April 4, 1937 in Louisville, KY, son of the late John and Irene (Schlenk) Kotheimer. John was also predeceased by his first wife; Marie (Richard) Kotheimer, a daughter; Cassidy Kotheimer, and a sister; Betty Estill. John was the loving husband of Ellen (Connolly) Kotheimer of Hudson. John was a US Navy Veteran, having served his country honorably for 21 years. He served in the Vietnam waters during the Vietnam War as well as served during the Cold War and held the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. John served as the Regional and Branch President of the FRA, the Secretary/Treasurer of the FRA (Fleet Reserve Association) as well as Commander for the Hudson, NH VFW #5791 for 4 years. He also served as the chairman of the VFW House Committee, volunteered for many years with the VFW Bingo and belonged to the Military Order of the Cootie. He loved being active and was involved with the Benevolent 7 Lodge, Masons out of Milford, NH. John was a worker, landing his first job at a young age as a paper boy. He later held other jobs at various companies, including a fireman in Connecticut and later in the shipping and receiving department at Filterfresh Coffee Service, from which he retired. When he was younger, he enjoyed a Captain Black pipe on the back porch while watching the birds as well as having an extensive collection of well loved pipes. He loved every dog he met, but he hated driving and volunteered the task to anyone who was willing to take it. John enjoyed woodworking in his workshop and stoking the fire in his wood stove. He loved reading a good Clive Cussler book, Military and Mystery books were always his favorite, and loved to putter around the house. If he found the time to relax, it was to enjoy an NCIS rerun on television or sit around talking with his family. Besides his loving wife, Ellen, his devoted family includes a daughter; Denise Harris and her husband Tony of Delaware, a stepson; Ken Castonguay and his wife AnnMarie of Grafton, MA, a stepdaughter; Sharon Norman of Nashua, a step son; Douglas Castonguay of Nashua, a stepdaughter; Cheryl Castonguay of Nashua, a granddaughter; Katherine Harris of Beloit, WI, a granddaughter; Emily Lauer and her husband John Philadelphia, PA, a step granddaughter; Jennifer Wiedmer and her husband Luke of Hollis, NH, a step granddaughter; Michaela Oran and her husband Serkan of Tewksbury, MA, a step grandson; Joshua Castonguay of Billerica, MA, as well as three great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, November 8th from 5pm-7pm in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry Street in Hudson, NH. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, November 9th at 10:30am in the NH State Veteran Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, in Boscawen, NH. All may please meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made in John's loving memory to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org
