James "Jim" Avery

James “Jim” Avery, 55 years old, died at home after a long courageous battle with Systemic Scleroderma. He was predeceased by his parents Dick and Teresa (Owen) Avery. He is survived by his brothers Thomas and Richard and sister Debra. He was a beloved uncle to Richard, Ashlee, Christopher, Samantha, Cassandra, Victoria, Scott and great-nephew Thomas. Jim worked for years as an HVAC installer and fabricator beginning his career with his Dad at A-Very Construction. Jim enjoyed mentoring young workers starting out in the construction trades. Throughout his life Jim’s love for baseball never wavered. When he ended his playing days on the ninety foot diamond he enjoyed softball with his friends, rising early on Sunday mornings to play double-header games. When his nephew Scott was ready to play in Little League Jim became his coach. First with the Mariners and then with the A’s. Jim enjoyed sharing his baseball knowledge with the young players so much he stayed with Little League for years after Scott aged out of the program. Jim’s sister Deb said he was the bravest man she ever knew. She talks fondly of his great heart and soul - the same heart and soul he would share with his friends. Whether on the field or at the bar, with a Bud Light in his hand and a cigarette in his mouth, Jim’s positive attitude and constant smile would draw friends old and new to his side. He loved hanging out at the bar talking about professional and college football games. Jim was the guy people went to for advice, help, or just to have someone to complain to. Jim would always listen. One of his proudest moments was buying the house he shared with his longtime companion and dear friend Pam Beaton. His friends understood how important his house was to him and all pitched in to build a ramp and remodel the inside so that Jim could be at home for his final days. Jim will be missed by family and many friends but his generous heart and love for us all will never be forgotten. Following cremation, a time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5th from 5pm - 7pm in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral home, 50 Ferry street in Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 6th at 10am in Immaculate Conception Church, 216 East Dunstable Road in Nashua. All may please meet at church. Burial will be held at a later date in Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody, MA.
