Eileen G. (O’Brien) Donohue, 89, of Nashua, NH died Sun. Oct. 18, 2009 at Greenbriar Terrace Nursing Home in Nashua.
Eileen was born on March 29, 1920 in Worcester, MA daughter of the late Governor’s Councilor John J. and Jenni (Charles) O’Brien and was the loving wife of John L. Donohue (1988) with whom she shared 46 years of marriage.
Before marriage, Eileen worked at the Worcester Telegram and Gazette and also started a hearing aid business with her father. During WWII she went into the Red Cross Nursing program to become certified while her husband John was away at war. Eileen went on to work many years at St. Joseph’s Hospital and as a private duty nurse that extended to family, friends and neighbors in times of need.
Eileen enjoyed traveling, which took her across many parts of the world. She was an avid reader and she loved music and hosting parties, but above all her family came first and those who knew her best, knew this most of all.
Eileen is survived by three sons, Jack Donohue and his wife Rita of Malone, NY, Daniel Donohue of Hudson, NH and David Donohue of Nashua, NH; two daughters Jan Durocher and her husband David Sr. of Nashua, and Laurie Donohue MD and her partner Maureen Servas of Rochester, NY; a sister, Jeanne Stranieri of VA; a sister-in-law, Joan O’Brien of West Boylston, MA; eight grandchildren, David Durocher and his wife Aaron of Portland, ME, Jayme Motivala and her husband Cyrus of Nashua, John Durocher and his wife Melissa of Nashua, Amy Hughes and her husband Shawn of London England, Jessica Surface and her husband Brian of Malone, NY Shawn Donohue of London, England, Patrick Donohue of Queens, NY, Samrin Servas Donohue of Rochester, NY; seven great-grand children, Devin, Cameron and Arianna Motivala of Nashua, Noah and Oscar Hughes of London, England, Hayden Durocher of Nashua, and Olivia Rose Surface of Malone, NY; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The Family wishes to thank the staff at Greenbriar Terrace and New Hampshire Hospice for their excellent care.
Visiting Hours will be held on Thurs. Oct. 22nd from 5-9pm in the DUMONT-SULLIVAN FUNERAL HOME, 50 FERRY ST., HUDSON. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Fri. Oct. 23rd at 10am in the Parrish of the Resurrection Church, 449 Broad St., Nashua. All To Meet At Church. Burial will take place on Sat. Oct. 24th at 10am in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester, MA.
